Description
The Sebangau Katigan Landscape covers an area of 2.346 million hectares, of which 1.7 million hectares remain intactly forested. Altogether, the landscape contributes almost a quarter of the forest area in the province of Central Kalimantan. However, forest status has been decreased by changes in forest function in the form of plantations, road construction, settlements, and large mining. Details of the locations are:
Location: Mangara and Kawei Social Forestry - a native village of the Dayak tribe in Central Kalimantan
Target area: 300 ha.
The total population: 265 people in Mangara village and 237 people in Kawei village.
This area is an important part of forest connectivity and also habitat connectivity to connect the large habitat corridor from Sebangau National Park to Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park, which is called the Katingan Corridor.
Legality status: These two villages received approval for social forestry management through the Community Forestry (HKm) scheme in 2018: Mangara Mandiri KTH 2,040 ha with 147 Forest Farmer Group (KTH) members and Batu Kacah KTH 1,234 ha with 107 KTH members.
